IS GIVING BETTER THAN RECEIVING?
I had every intention of writing a mea culpa blog about “procrastination” and how much of a thief it is, robbing us of our time and of opportunities to be successful. As regular Prosperity Now! students know, I haven’t offered a new blog post since late January.
Then I saw my lesson for today in A Course in Miracles, and the message was clear: this is what I need to share. It is Lesson 108 — To Give and To Receive Are One in Truth
This idea is fundamental to a changed consciousness — leaving small thinking behind, thoughts of lack and not-enough and moving into the reality that heals and brings joy: there is more than enough for everyone!
Students who read Prosperity Now! know the affirmation:
I have enough
I have more than enough
I have more than enough to share
And I am ready to receive more!

The world needs this idea more than ever. It is a simple concept but one which revolutionizes our entire perspective on the world, on our lives, on what is important and on what causes our difficulties.
The reason the idea is simple is because, “...both giving and receiving are different aspects of one Thought....”
Giving and receiving are not two separate things! They both occur simultaneously and they enrich both parties equally. A giver does not lose by giving, and a recipient does not gain at the giver’s expense.
When giving and receiving are seen as unified then, as the Course says, “...the Thought remains complete. And in this understanding is the base on which all opposites are reconciled..... One thought, completely unified.....”
It must be remembered that what we are always talking about sharing (giving/receiving) is an idea! The “thing” given is always an idea. I don’t care what it looks like: money, love, time, attention, furniture, clothing, food, peace, joy, a smile, etc. Some of these seem to be things, but they are at heart, ideas we share.
Yes! Even money is just an idea, spiritual energy we can exchange and watch it grow and multiply.
This is why tithing works and why it heals all our fears! We soon see that our minds have shifted and that shift in thinking heals not only our finances, but all aspects of our lives.
So we have a choice, and whatever we chose will seem true for us. We can chose to see an exchange where one gains and one loses. I gave to you, so now you have and I am lacking whatever was given.
This is how the world sees.
Or, we can chose to see the higher reality — that when I give, I am increasing both of us: the recipient clearly, but I am enriching myself also. In this way the “score” of the gift is not 1-0. The “score” is 1-1....
Plus, more is added to giver and receiver. Because the Universe is unlimited, the Universe is ready to add into the equation.
Hence the saying, “God loves a cheerful giver,” and quickly gives them more and more blessings.
Can I tie this into my character defect of procrastination? Of course. By not tithing of my time and talent — by not writing a blog post for many months, readers were robbed of an idea, a thought, an affirmation, a Truth, an uplifting concept that might have helped them.
And I was robbed of the joy I get when I post something that reinforces Prosperity Now! ideas, which heal me as much as (or even more than) they may heal another.
Meditating on the idea that “to give and to receive are one in Truth,“ even pausing to consider that this idea could be true, is a powerful game-changer for your thinking and your life.
Next time you give, stop and consider how you are thinking/feeling about it. Shift your perception. See that what you are about to give, is not “lost” when you give it away.
There are healing ideas tied up in this exchange and you have the power to bring them into existence: peace, joy, love, caring, wholeness and more.
Give in Joy
Receive in Gratitude
And prepare to be enriched beyond your wildest dreams!
